The Sophia, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc has a deep blackberry, cassis, plum, kirsch and violet tinged nose – in fact it is difficult to discern the Cabernet Franc! The palate is full-bodied and beautifully balanced, good acidity, firm tannins and great weight and yet there is also a sense of weightlessness that marks this out as a stunning wine with a persistent tannic finish. This will need 5-6 years ageing at least. Superb.
Alcohol Content: 14.4%
Barrel-aging: 18 months in French oak barrels( 80% new)

Winemaker’s Notes:
Merlot dominated blend (89%) with 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, and 1% Cabernet Franc.
This wine was fermented in closed oak tanks and aged in French oak barriques, 52% of which were new barrels.
Colour: Deep garnet colour with an evident ruby hue
Aromas: Aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum mingle with the characters of cedar, sandalwood and tobacco.
Flavours: On the palate these same characters are laced with layers of firm tannin providing structure. The wine is powerful and intense, yet seamless and framed with bright acidity.
