I assist Nick with all private consumer related events and also am a bit of a Jack Of All Trades around the office. This includes helping Karen co-ordinate the events leading up to the Lifford Grand Tasting to writing tasting notes for the agents.
It was a ’93 Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Boudriotte from Domaine Ramonet. I was a student and also it was the first time I had ever tried anything Montrachet and right then I knew I was, tasting something special.
I have a great love for Hawke’s Bay New Zealand, because that is not only where I studied wine , but they make great wines in that region. I have to say though if I were left on an island with a choice of one wine to have for the rest of my life it would be a great bottle of Pinot Noir from Burgundy (It’s a Lifford thing I guess).
There are too many good bottles that have been consumed to have one favourite but here are a few: Staete Landt Chardonnay, Felton Road Pinot Noir, Kooyong Pinot Noir and any really great bottle of Jadot that we can get Steve to pull out of his cellar.
The first job I ever had without any help from family was working at the Blue Bagonia restaurant on Yonge Street. I cut veg, made salads and made the dessert plates. It was a lot of fun and a great intro to the world of food and wine. One of the reasons I took to this particular career.
I think travel is not just my biggest indulgence, but one of the most important things that I do every year. There isn’t a better way to educate your- self then traveling to another country and learning about it’s local culture.
My 90 year old grandmother. She still is 100% independent and makes the best food you will ever eat.
My family farm for a nap with my dog Lilly.
